Fostering independence and individuality in singing leads students to find their own unique voice, style, and personality on stage. We believe in giving singers the tools they will need to succeed in the real world. What sets our teaching apart is the inclusion of ear-training, sight reading, and musicianship skills. Fluency in the language of music sets the stage for greater communication with the audience!
For private lessons, a minimum of 30 minutes per week is recommended. For semi-private lessons there is an hour minimum. Two students may also elect to share an hour, each receiving some private time and then combining for a portion of the hour.
Singing lessons are available for ages 7 and up and the content of these lessons will address the specific needs of each student. Students ages 7-14 will be taught to sing in a technique that is appropriate and safe for their young instrument. Musicianship, ear-training, sight-singing and music fundamentals can be learned while their voice is still developing and we believe that the foundation laid during these years can greatly support the musical and technical work we hope they will continue to do as they get older. A combination singing/piano lesson for children is highly recommended by our instructors!
For students ages 15 and up, we will work on building a healthy and dependable vocal technique though warm-ups, exercises and study of the classical Italian repertoire. Proper breath support for singing, correct body alignment, diction and vowel formation are all topics we will cover. The more technically proficient we can become, the more flexible and expressive we are as singing artists! Different styles of music may be explored based on the students’ interest, including classical, opera, musical theater and folk music. Other areas we may cover as needed include dealing with performance anxiety (stage fright), audition preparation and performance etiquette.
We do have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If requested, an email or text alert can be sent 48 hrs. prior to the scheduled lesson time. If we don’t hear from you at your scheduled lesson time, we will give you a call to find out if there is a problem or emergency. In the event of illness, please let us know as soon as possible. We understand that this happens, especially with children, and lessons can be made up at a time mutually agreed upon.
Please contact Celeste if you have any specific questions. She is happy to address any concerns or issues you may have!
