Our experience as performers has greatly informed our teaching style and philosophy. We believe in giving students the tools they need to succeed and achieve their goals. From beginners to advanced students of all ages, we help develop skills in reading, technique and performance while exploring a wide range of music, from classics to contemporary. Along with technical drills and practice tips, we will gently introduce music theory, music history and ear training. This knowledge will strengthen the students’ musical foundation, developing a well rounded and confident musician!
For Private lessons we generally recommend having one 30-60 minute lesson per week. It all depends on personal goals, student attention span (especially with the youngest students), and performing/auditioning preparation needs.
For childrens’ lessons, we will select an appropriate piano method and use supplementary materials that support their interests and abilities. For the very young, fun and fluency in music is fostered in a nurturing atmosphere using appropriate materials designed to encourage and inspire. We believe that music is a lifelong pursuit and we aim to help others to enjoy the process by giving them the very best tools and training, right from the start!
During lessons of intermediate and advanced students, we will work on building a solid piano technique though warm-ups, exercises, and detailed study of challenging passages in the classical piano repertoire. This approach has been shown to dramatically and quickly improve technique while holding the students' interest and getting them closer to their goals. Although we will provide guidance in selecting the most appropriate repertoire, we also encourage our students to bring their own favorite music to the lesson for study.
Lessons are available in our well equipped Downingtown studio. As we have two grand pianos, we are pleased to offer the the opportunity for students to team up to play four hand piano music. This ensemble work will greatly improve sight-reading, musicianship and artistry. It’s also a lot of fun!
For students needing in-home lessons, we can travel within a 10 mile radius by special request. Availability of these lessons is quite limited however and travel fees may apply.
We hold two recitals per year for students wishing to perform. We encourage all of our students to share their music in these recitals but it is not required. There is no fee for participation in these events and it is always free to attend. In addition, we occasionally offer workshops in a non-threatening and supportive environment. We find these experiences build confidence and camaraderie amongst our students and also provide support for those preparing for auditions, competitions and music programs.
We welcome your interest! Our compassionate and patient approach helps students from many different walks of like to enjoy their musical journey.
